Hola, Happy New Year's Eve, and Greetings from Tucson, AZ...

Didn't do so well betting on the ponies in El Paso, but had a blast. We left San Acacia with snow falling, 5 inches on the ground, and within 10 miles heading south, it was dry and sunny:) But not necessarily warm:( Here in Tucson, it's 44 degrees, but 9:00pm. Hopefully tomorrow will bring warmth, finally. For the first time in 12 years (today is our anniversary of meeting), Bob & I are spending New Year's Eve all alone, and with the Packers win over the division champ Bears, it's been quite a night. But what is Brett thinking????? He can't retire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, for our anniversary, (and because we didn't want to do xmas presents), Bob bought me a new set of golf clubs! So tomorrow we golf. And visit my brother.

We're at a campground we visited 3 years ago, in the high desert above Tucson, with such a beautiful variety of cacti. I love it here, but cheyenne is a bit too inquisitive around the cacti, and I'm sure we'll be pulling pickers out of her nose soon. She's on a tight leash, starting now, through the Baja. We'll get pictures tomorrow of this place...the saguaros are magnificent, and from what we've seen, this is the only place they grow, so we'll get lots of pictures.

For now, I need to finish my champagne and celebrate our anniversary. toodles...

Steve and Raylene are welcoming hosts as always. Bob was a ranch hand today, and I had a down day, reading, napping,... It was great, but I couldn't handle too many days like that...I need to get busy! Tomarrow I get to help ranch, or whatever they call it. It's 9 pm and Bob's ready for bed, so I'm assuming it's pretty hard work:)The pictures are of the landscape around us. This is a pretty poor area, as you can see. We are however parked close to the horses with a beautiful view of the mountains. I counted 20 horses they have here on the ranch, and there's always work to do. We love it!There's snow storms all around us, and it snowed very briefly today, but between here and Denver is a bunch of weather. Glad we're going south! One more day of ranching, then to El Paso for some horse racing, then west... Hopefully it'll be warmer. It's 25 degrees right now, but a dry cold, so not too bad. Still, 75 would be much better!

Made it to San Acacia, NM today...10 hours of driving...way too much for us, but we wanted to get here. Apparently there's a big storm headed our way. we're at Steve & Raylene's, the ranchers we met last year. They have a new ranch, and it's bigger & better & more beautiful than the last place. Wish we had more time for them, because they could always use some ranch hands, and that's right up our alley! but for now, the baja beckons... I'm sure we'll be back this way. We don't have any pictures to post today, it was dark when we pulled in, but we'll put some up tomorrow. They have a horse race in El Paso this weekend (the race we met them at last year), so we plan to tag along to that!

Our first entry on the annual site is from Dodge City, KS. I know this is a historical, old western town, but for the life of me I can't figure out what the significance is. But we're just passing through, so I guess it doesn't much matter. It's 42 degrees at 8pm, so it's warming up slowly for us. Spent 2 days getting to Kansas City, then 2 days with Billy & susan...they didn't have xmas plans, so we spent the holiday with them, drinking too much as usual! We parked the rig in the road at the end of their driveway (they live on a dead end street). Next time we'll have to find a campground! We did however learn to make pepper jelly, and did a fine job, if I do say so myself. We're dining on it as we type.Cheyenne's been practicing her Spanish...last night while working on "cerveza", she began to drool! I think she's getting it.We're only 4 days into the trip and Bob's already whining that it's going too fast, and almost 1/10 of the way over! Not much to report yet, so we'll sign out for now from the Wally World campground.
